Volvo has revealed new details about the upcoming EX60, a fully electric SUV designed to address many of the common concerns drivers still have about switching to electric vehicles.
With a best-in-class range of 503 miles (810 kilometres) on a single charge and the ability to add over 200 miles of range in the time it takes to stop for a coffee, the EX60 is set to become Volvo’s longest-range and fastest-charging electric car to date.
Volvo says the EX60 has been developed with everyday driving firmly in mind, helping drivers feel confident whether they are heading across the country or tackling longer motorway journeys.
Engineers have focused on efficiency in real driving conditions rather than ideal test scenarios, aiming to turn what Volvo describes as range anxiety into range comfort.
According to Anders Bell, Chief Technology Officer at Volvo Cars, the EX60 directly addresses the biggest concerns people have about going fully electric by combining long range with rapid charging in a way that fits naturally into daily life.
One of the EX60’s standout features is its rapid charging capability. When connected to a high-power fast charger, the EX60 can add over 200 miles (340 kilometres) of range in just ten minutes.
Volvo says this means a short coffee stop can now be enough to continue a journey, bringing electric charging closer than ever to the convenience of a traditional fuel stop.
Every EX60 will also come with a 10-year battery warranty, offering long-term peace of mind for UK drivers.
The EX60 is the first Volvo built on the brand’s new SPA3 electric platform, designed to reduce weight while improving efficiency.
Instead of carrying the battery as a separate unit, it is integrated directly into the vehicle’s structure. This helps the EX60 travel further without needing an oversized or excessively heavy battery.
Volvo has also introduced large-scale casting techniques that replace hundreds of smaller components with a single precision part. Fewer parts mean less weight, which directly contributes to longer driving range and improved efficiency.
Charging performance is supported by a new 800-volt electrical system and intelligent battery management software, helping maintain fast and consistent charging even in colder weather.
The EX60 also uses intelligent charging algorithms developed by Breathe Battery Technologies. These systems continuously adjust how energy flows into the battery, helping keep it operating efficiently and supporting long-term battery health in all weather conditions.
With a range of up to 503 miles, the EX60 is expected to outperform key electric SUV rivals such as the Tesla Model Y, Audi Q6 e-tron and BMW iX3, placing it firmly at the top of its class for range.
For drivers who regularly cover longer distances, this difference could mean fewer charging stops and greater flexibility on longer journeys.
The EX60 will join Volvo’s expanding line-up of electric cars already available in the UK, including the compact Volvo EX30 and the premium seven-seat Volvo EX90.
Drivers can explore the full Volvo electric range and compare models to find the right fit for their lifestyle and driving needs.
The Volvo EX60 will be fully revealed on 21 January 2026, with the global launch event livestreamed online.
For drivers across Leicester, Coventry, Hinckley and the wider Midlands, the EX60 represents a significant step forward in electric driving. Its long range, fast charging and reduced servicing requirements are designed to suit everything from daily commuting to longer motorway journeys.
