Volvo Cars has officially started production of its all-new, fully electric Volvo ES90, a milestone that marks another major step in the brand’s journey towards becoming a fully electric car manufacturer.
Built for European markets, the ES90 combines Scandinavian design with cutting-edge electric performance, delivering safety, sustainability and versatility in one sophisticated package.
A New Era of Volvo Electric Cars
The ES90 is Volvo’s first model to feature advanced 800-volt battery technology, enabling longer driving ranges and ultra-fast charging times compared to any previous electric Volvo. This innovation means less time spent charging and more time enjoying the road – a key benefit for drivers making the switch to electric. Customer deliveries across Europe will begin later this year, with other key markets, including Asia Pacific, to follow soon after.
Scandinavian Design Meets Innovation
Designed for “a life in balance,” the ES90 blends the elegant profile of a premium sedan with the versatility of a fastback and the elevated comfort typically found in SUVs. This unique combination ensures generous space, a commanding view of the road, and everyday practicality, without compromising on style or sophistication. With its clean lines and modern proportions, the ES90 is set to become another Scandinavian design classic in the Volvo Cars line-up.
Next-Generation Safety and Technology
True to Volvo’s heritage, safety remains at the heart of the ES90. Powered by next-generation core computing and developed using Volvo’s proprietary Superset tech stack, the ES90 has been designed to evolve through continuous software updates. This ensures drivers benefit from the latest safety, connectivity, and performance improvements throughout the car’s lifetime, keeping the ES90 future-ready from day one.
Commitment to Sustainability
The ES90 reflects Volvo Cars’ broader ambition to create a climate-neutral future. Produced at Volvo’s Chengdu plant using 100% climate-neutral energy, the model sets new standards for sustainable manufacturing. According to Volvo’s July Life Cycle Assessment, the ES90 has one of the lowest carbon footprints of any vehicle in the company’s history. This aligns with Volvo’s wider commitment to reduce lifecycle emissions and embrace circular economy principles.
Customer-First Approach
Francesca Gamboni, Chief Industrial Operations Officer at Volvo Cars, highlighted the importance of the new model: “The fully electric ES90 marks a major milestone as Volvo Cars steps into a new era of safety, sustainability and human-centric technology. With production now underway, we’re reaffirming our commitment to a fully electrified future and proving our ability to innovate and meet customer demands.”
A Car in a Class of Its Own
By merging sedan refinement, fastback adaptability, and SUV practicality, the ES90 stands in a category of its own. It offers drivers a truly versatile electric car that delivers comfort, space, and efficiency, while remaining unmistakably Volvo. With production now underway and orders open across Europe, the ES90 is set to become a defining model in Volvo’s growing range of electric vehicles.
