Volvo EX90 Charging

The 2026 Volvo EX90 is now available to order, with faster charging and upgraded safety features.

Volvo Cars has introduced major hardware and software upgrades to the Volvo EX90. Powered by a new 800-volt electric system, the SUV can now charge significantly faster. A core computer upgrade also brings new collision avoidance and driver support functions.

Among the updates are connected safety alerts for hazards ahead, slippery roads, and accidents. Emergency Stop Assist (ESA) is now integrated with automatic e-call. If a driver becomes unresponsive, ESA will stop the car safely in its lane and the system will connect directly to an emergency call centre.

Other improvements include enhanced automatic emergency steering in darkness and Park Pilot Assist for parallel parking.

The dual NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin-based computer now delivers 500 trillion operations per second. This gives Volvo Cars the ability to advance safety and performance using data, software, and AI. Owners of the 2025 EX90 will also benefit, receiving a one-time free computer upgrade during a scheduled workshop visit.

"The additional computing power enables us to harness the power of AI, data and software to further enhance safety and overall performance of the EX90," said Anders Bell, chief technology and engineering officer at Volvo Cars. "This means we can provide advanced safety and driver support features, along with continuous improvements to the infotainment and battery systems – all delivered seamlessly over the air."

Faster Charging with New 800V System

The switch from a 400V to 800V electric system reduces heat generation during charging. This enables faster charging speeds, supported by Volvo’s in-house battery management software. Using a smart algorithm, the system optimises charging and can add up to 250 km of range in just 10 minutes.

The 800V setup also delivers more power for stronger acceleration while improving efficiency. The design reduces material use and lowers the weight of both the battery and electric motors.

"The EX90 now features our most advanced electric system, delivering faster charging and higher efficiency, so you can feel more confident and in control," added Anders Bell.

New Features Inside

The EX90 will also feature an electrochromic panoramic roof. First seen on the Volvo ES90, this roof allows drivers to adjust transparency to reduce glare or boost privacy at the touch of a button.

With these upgrades, the EX90 becomes one of the most advanced electric SUVs in the Volvo range, available to order now for customers across Leicester, Hinckley and Coventry.
