Volvo has confirmed it is bringing advanced AI-powered technology and natural voice interaction to the new Volvo EX60

The EX60 will be the first Volvo to launch with Google’s new Gemini AI assistant, enabling drivers to interact with the car in a more natural, conversational manner. Volvo says the system is designed to reduce distraction, improve ease of use and make everyday driving simpler and safer.

The Volvo EX60 will be revealed on 21 January 2026 at 5 pm GMT.

Natural voice interaction powered by Google Gemini

The Volvo EX60 introduces Gemini, Google’s latest AI assistant, fully integrated into the car’s systems. Rather than using fixed commands, drivers can hold natural conversations with the vehicle, helping them complete tasks while keeping their eyes on the road.

Drivers can ask the EX60 to search emails, check whether items will fit in the boot, or help plan a road trip. The system is highly personalised and builds on nearly a decade of collaboration between Volvo Cars and Google.

Processing power designed for safety and responsiveness

Advanced AI features require significant computing power, and the EX60 delivers this through a combination of Qualcomm Snapdragon and NVIDIA DRIVE technology. Volvo says this is the most powerful computing setup ever fitted to one of its cars.

The result is an infotainment system that responds instantly, loads maps without delay and understands voice commands more accurately. This smooth experience is designed to keep the driver's attention focused where it matters most.

A car that learns and improves over time

Using data from its sensors, the EX60 continuously monitors its surroundings to support advanced driver assistance features. The system helps anticipate hazards earlier and supports calmer, more confident reactions in unexpected situations.

With the ability to perform more than 250 trillion operations per second, the EX60 can also learn from real-world driving data across Volvo’s global fleet, including near-misses and accidents, helping to improve safety over time.

Long range and ultra-fast charging

Volvo has confirmed that the EX60 can travel up to 503 miles on a single charge in all-wheel drive form. When connected to a 400kW fast charger, the EX60 can add up to 211 miles of range in just ten minutes.

This places the EX60 among the longest-range electric SUVs announced to date, reinforcing Volvo’s focus on combining performance, efficiency and everyday usability.

What this means for East Midlands drivers

For drivers in Leicester, Coventry, Hinckley and across the Midlands, the EX60 represents the next step in Volvo’s electric journey. It builds on models such as the Volvo EX30 and the flagship Volvo EX90, offering advanced technology in a practical mid-size SUV format.

As anticipation builds ahead of its January reveal, the EX60 is expected to become a key model for drivers considering the move to premium electric motoring.
