Revealed in Shanghai after weeks of teasing on social media, the Polestar 1 is the first car under the new Polestar brand.
An electric performance hybrid, the Polestar 1 features a powerful electric drivetrain paired with an additional internal combustion engine to provide an added boost. With this hybrid set-up, the Polestar 1 can produce 600 horsepower, 1000 Nm of torque, and has an electric range of 150 km.
Practically the entirety of the Polestar 1's upper body is built from carbon fibre reinforced polymer. This stiff, rigid, yet light body contributes to great and precise handling, and gives the vehicle its beautifully sculpted design. The car's interior features handcrafted leather detailing and a carbon fibre wing that stretches to the full height of the instrument panel. State-of-the-art tooling precision enables a high-class fit and finish. In the back the 2+2 seater provides an exquisite compartment with handcrafted leather detailing and tasteful integration of the Bower & Wilkins high-end sound system.
The Polestar 1 will only be sold online through a subscription service. Cars will be offered on an all-inclusive subscription basis, with a two or three-year fixed term, set monthly payments and no deposit. The fee, which has yet to be disclosed, will include pick-up, delivery and servicing at selected Volvo dealers. Once the subscription term is completed, Polestar takes the car back, with vehicles then refurbished and sold second-hand.
The Polestar 1 will go into production in mid-2019.
