Volvo has unveiled a new Black Edition version of its flagship XC90 SUV, giving the large family hybrid a bold new look and premium design upgrades.
Available in both plug-in and mild hybrid form, the XC90 Black Edition introduces striking black styling elements and fresh colour options to one of Volvo’s best-selling models.
The new Volvo XC90 Black Edition is available in four exterior colours: Onyx Black, Crystal White, Denim Blue and Vapour Grey. Each model features unique high-gloss black detailing on the grille, iron mark, rear badges and alloy wheels, giving the SUV a bold and confident road presence.
Inside, customers can choose between two all-black interior themes, both finished with charcoal headlining and chequered aluminium trims. Seat upholstery is available in two charcoal-coloured materials, creating a refined, minimalist environment with a premium Scandinavian feel.
The addition of the XC90 means five Volvo models are now available in Black Edition trim. These include the XC60, the fully electric EX40 and EC40, and the XC40 mild hybrid. A Black Edition version of the EX30 is also in development, with further details expected soon.
“Following clear demand from our customers, we are expanding our line-up of Black Edition cars, adding the XC90,” said Erik Severinson, Chief Commercial Officer at Volvo Cars. “There’s now a timeless and confident-looking Black Edition for our customers in all sizes.”
The current XC90 was extensively updated in 2024, receiving a wide range of design and technology upgrades. Already one of Volvo’s most awarded models, the latest version combines Scandinavian design with advanced electrification and safety features.
The XC90 remains one of the safest SUVs on the road, thanks to its reinforced safety cage and a comprehensive package of active safety systems. Its plug-in hybrid version leads Volvo’s hybrid line-up, offering a balance between electric driving and petrol back-up for customers not yet ready to move to a fully electric car.
In the UK, the XC90 Black Edition is offered on Plus, Plus Pro and Ultra trim levels, with both plug-in hybrid and mild hybrid options. This makes it an appealing choice for drivers looking for a premium SUV with a distinctive new style.
