The all-electric Volvo EX60 has been named the winner of the Reader Award at the 2026 What Car? Awards, becoming the car UK drivers are most excited about in the year ahead.

Awarded just one day after its global reveal, the Reader Award is voted for by the public and What Car? readers, recognising the most anticipated new model set to arrive on UK roads.

A strong early response to Volvo’s next electric SUV

Unveiled in Sweden on 21 January, the EX60 is Volvo’s new fully electric mid-size SUV, built on the brand’s most advanced electric architecture to date. It sets new standards for range, charging speed and overall usability within its segment.

The EX60 offers a best-in-class electric range of up to 500 miles, combined with ultra-fast charging that can replenish the battery from 10 to 80 percent in just 19 minutes. A 10-year battery warranty adds further reassurance for drivers considering the switch to electric.

Alongside its performance credentials, the EX60 showcases Volvo’s latest Scandinavian design approach, blending an aerodynamic exterior with natural interior materials, a calm and spacious cabin, and smart, practical storage solutions.

Multiple Volvo models recognised for interior quality

In addition to the EX60’s Reader Award win, several other Volvo models were recognised by the What Car? judges for interior design, usability and comfort:

  • EX30 – Best interior of any small electric SUV
  • XC40 – Best family SUV interior
  • EX40 – Best family electric SUV interior
  • XC60 – Best premium SUV interior
  • XC90 – Best plug-in hybrid for big families

Industry and customer confidence in the EX60

Nicole Melillo Shaw, Managing Director at Volvo Car UK, said: “A win for the Volvo EX60 as the most anticipated new car of the year is an enormous moment for us and a great way to kick off 2026.”

“We have been incredibly excited about the launch of the EX60, and to see that excitement shared by UK drivers and What Car? readers is a real sign of trust in our brand and belief in our next generation of electric cars.”

She added: “We are also delighted that so many other Volvo models have been recognised for their interiors and design, which reflects what we stand for as a brand and the strength of our current line-up.”

What Car? readers explain their choice

What Car? judges commented: “Before every What Car? Awards, we ask our readers to name the upcoming model they are most excited about. The 2026 vote was the closest for years, highlighting the strength of the competition.”

“Ultimately, it was the Volvo EX60 that pulled ahead, and it’s easy to see why when you look at its style and specifications.”

They added: “Among premium brands, Volvo is undoubtedly setting the standard for interior quality. From materials and build quality to comfort and seating support, its cars stand out whether you are choosing a compact SUV or a large family model.”

Global recognition for the Volvo EX60

Alongside its UK success at the What Car? Awards, the Volvo EX60 has also been named one of the most anticipated new vehicles of 2026 in both the United States and Canada by Newsweek, underlining strong global interest ahead of its launch.
