The Kia PV5 WKNDR Concept has won a Silver Award in the Automotive and Transportation category at the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) 2025.

The award highlights Kia’s future design direction and global competitiveness. IDEA is regarded as one of the world’s most prestigious design competitions.

The PV5 WKNDR is part of Kia’s new Purpose Built Vehicle (PBV) lineup. Designed for adventure, it features a flexible modular interior that can be customised for space and practicality. A unique feature, the ‘Gear Head’, acts as off-board storage or a mobile pantry, giving users more freedom when travelling off-grid.

The concept also demonstrates Kia’s sustainability focus. It includes solar panels, hydro turbine wheels for battery recharging, and recycled Nike Grind flooring made from old trainers.

Karim Habib, Head of Kia Global Design, said: “Recognition from IDEA is a great honour, demonstrating the impact and value of Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ philosophy in guiding our future design vision.”

IDEA is one of the three major global design awards. Organised by the Industrial Designers Society of America, it is judged by more than 40 experts from multiple industries. Entries are assessed on innovation, aesthetics, benefits to users, benefits to society, and brand value.

The Kia PV5 WKNDR Concept will not be sold in the UK, but it gives a preview of the design thinking behind Kia’s future PBV lineup. Drivers in Leicester, Hinckley and Loughborough will see the first PBV production models arrive at TMS Kia shortly.
