The Kia EV4 has covered 242 miles in temperatures as low as minus 31 degrees during a major winter EV test in Norway.
The result places the EV4 among the top five performers in the El Prix Winter Test Drive, one of the most demanding real world electric car range tests.
The test was organised by the Norwegian Automotive Federation and compared electric vehicles under identical driving and charging conditions.
The EV4 long range model, fitted with an 81.4kWh battery and 19 inch wheels, achieved 242 miles in temperatures between minus 20 and minus 31 degrees. This represents more than 65 percent of its official WLTP range of 369 miles.
The route covered city traffic, highways and mountain roads, showing the EV4’s ability to maintain usable range even in very cold weather.
The EV4’s result placed it among the top five vehicles in the test for both achieved range and deviation from its official WLTP figure. It was also the strongest performer in its segment and price range.
The El Prix test is held twice a year and is designed to give drivers a realistic picture of how electric cars perform in summer and winter conditions.
Kia says the EV4’s performance is supported by its fourth generation battery system, which includes advanced thermal management and optimised cooling.
Development testing included more than 68,000 miles of accelerated road simulations and repeated high speed charging sessions. Engineers reported a battery state of health of 95 percent after this testing.
During the winter test, the EV4 also charged from 10 to 80 percent in 33 minutes, just two minutes slower than its official figure.
The EV4 is Kia’s first electric model to be produced in Europe, built at the brand’s plant in Slovakia. Its chassis was tuned by engineers in Germany to balance comfort and handling on European roads.
This development focus helped the EV4 perform confidently on Norway’s icy test routes, which included steep climbs and low grip surfaces.
While UK winters are far milder than those in Norway, cold weather can still affect electric vehicle range. The EV4’s performance in extreme conditions suggests strong everyday usability throughout the year.
Drivers across Leicester, Hinckley and Loughborough can find out more about the Kia EV4 and its real world range at their local TMS Kia showroom.
