Geely Auto UK has unveiled full powertrain details for its upcoming Starray EM-i Super Hybrid PHEV SUV, set to launch next month as the brand’s second model for the UK market.
Designed from the outset as a plug-in hybrid, the Starray EM-i blends electric-only driving with the flexibility of a refined petrol engine. The result is a family-focused SUV that delivers strong range, impressive efficiency and advanced technology without asking drivers to change how they drive day to day.
Customers will be able to choose between two Lithium Iron Phosphate battery packs. The 18.4kWh option offers up to 51 miles of electric-only driving (WLTP), while the larger 29.8kWh battery extends that range to up to 84 miles on a single charge.
Both batteries support fast charging for added convenience. The smaller pack can be charged from 30 to 80 percent in around 20 minutes using a 30kW DC charger, while the larger battery completes the same top-up in just 16 minutes on a 60kW DC fast charger.
The Starray EM-i combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a compact electric motor, delivering a combined output of 193kW and 262Nm. This allows the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 62mph in just 8.0 seconds while maintaining smooth and responsive performance.
Fuel efficiency and emissions are equally impressive, with figures as low as 2.4L/100km and 54g/km CO2 for models with the smaller battery, or just 1.4L/100km and 32g/km CO2 when equipped with the larger battery pack.
To ensure the Starray EM-i feels at home on British roads, Geely worked closely with Lotus engineers to fine-tune the chassis and ride. Testing took place on UK roads, specialist tracks and advanced test facilities to deliver confident handling and everyday comfort.
At home, a 7kW AC wallbox can charge the battery from 25 to 100 percent in as little as three hours for the smaller battery, or 4.6 hours for the larger pack. Charging solutions are available through Geely’s UK partner Andersen EV, whose slimline home chargers are made in the UK and backed by a seven-year warranty.
The Geely Starray EM-i will go on sale next month, priced from £29,990 OTR. Every model comes with an eight-year or 125,000-mile warranty covering both the vehicle and high-voltage battery.
Michael Yang, General Manager of Geely Auto UK, said: “The Starray EM-i Super Hybrid delivers smart technology, excellent efficiency and everyday usability at an attainable price. It offers the benefits of electric driving while retaining the reassurance of petrol power, and marks an important step in the expansion of our UK range.”
