The Motability Scheme is a government-backed programme that allows people receiving certain disability benefits to lease a new car, scooter, or powered wheelchair. Instead of paying upfront for a vehicle, you use your mobility allowance to cover the cost, making it simpler and more affordable.

Benefits of the scheme include:

Fixed monthly payments with insurance, breakdown cover, and servicing included (depending on the vehicle)
The ability to choose a new car every few years
Options for modifications if needed

Who Is Eligible?

To qualify, you must receive one of the following benefits:

Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
Enhanced Rate Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement
Armed Forces Independence Payment

Eligibility also depends on your age - you must be over 16 to join, and under 65 to lease a car through the scheme.
